Journalism shaped how I approach storytelling — listening deeply, writing with clarity, and finding the human connection in every story. This is where my work began.

I started my career at The Laconia Daily Sun in 2012, at age 15, starting as a typist focused on updating the calendar of events and transcribing handwritten obituaries and letters to the editor. By spring 2013, I was given my first reporting assignment, covering the 2013 Laconia High School graduation ceremony — my first official byline.
Following that first story, I was brought on as a part-time reporter, covering local sports and feature stories beginning in the fall of 2013. From May 2013 through June 2015, I continued reporting part-time while in school, and returned to The Sun as a full-time summer staff reporter in both 2016 and 2017.
Below is a selection of published articles from my time at The Laconia Daily Sun, organized by topic: Health, Education, Business, and Local News.
Additional features, including seasonal series like Dining by Boat and Water Sports, can be found by searching “Alana Persson” on The Laconia Daily Sun’s website at www.laconiadailysun.com.
